Of course avocado is one of the best, nutritious fruits packed with vitamins (i.e. biotin) + unsaturated fats that work really well for people with dry and/or sensitive skin. But, period — these homemade mixtures can be used on anyone. Avocado also aids in slowing down the aging process, leaving your skin looking soft and refreshed! Just apply and leave on 15-20 minutes. For some added therapy, cut two slices of cucumber and lay over eyes to reduce dark circles + puffiness.
Still not impressed? Why don’t you try it on your hair? Especially, specially when your tresses are in desperate need of some conditioning. Apply + let sit for 30 minutes. For deep conditioning, throw on a shower cap!
In short, it’s natural and harmless, so how can you go wrong with that?! Not to mention all the benefits of consuming avocados… that’s another post.
Yolk and Avocado Hair Mask
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 1 Teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Teaspoon of Honey
- 1/2 of an avocado
Whisk one egg yolk, one teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil, and one teaspoon of honey together in a small bowl. Using a fork, mash in 1/2 of an avocado. Then, while you’re in the shower, apply the paste first to your ends and then all over your hair. Let it soak into your strands for 15 to 20 minutes, rinse it out, shampoo, and then rinse again.
Avocado Yogurt, Honey Face Mask
- ½ ripe Avocado
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of full fat Greek yogurt
Cut the avocado, spoon out one half and mash it up in a bowl. Add a teaspoon of honey and mix in to the bowl. Honey contains mild alpha hydroxy acid, which loosens the bonds between dead skin cells, making it a great exfoliant. Add a teaspoon of plain Greek yogurt. Full fat Greek yogurt is packed with a natural source of proteins, vitamins and minerals to nourish parched skin. Mix together until you reach a creamy paste consistency. Apply liberally to the face and neck with a brush or with fingers. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with warm water or washcloth.
Avocado Egg w/ Lemon Juice Face Mask (reduces oil from oily skin)
- ½ Ripe avocado
- 1 Egg white
- 1 Tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
Mash up the avocado with a fork and add in the egg white and lemon juice. Apply it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes. When finished, wash your skin with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Honey-Avocado Hair Mask
- 1 medium avocado — peeled and stoned
- 2 tablespoons honey
Mash together the ingredients in a small bowl. Massage into hair. Leave for 20-30 minutes. Wash hair as usual.
Egg White, Cucumber and Avocado Face Mask
- 1/2 cup chopped cucumber
- 1/2 cup chopped avocado
- 1 egg white
- 2 tsp. powdered milk
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender until they form a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face and neck using circular upward movements. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes, or until dry. Rinse your face and neck with warm water and finish with a cold water rinse. This mask will keep up to 30 minutes in the refrigerator if you need to prepare it slightly in advance.
